Drake Explains Why He Was Rejected From Miami Heat Locker Room

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Being rejected at the door to a party doesn’t faze Drake. The superstar rapper explained why he was denied from entering the Miami Heat locker room this summer after the team’s championship victory.

He told HQ on ESPN that he was just joking around by entering the media entrance to celebrate the Heats’ win. “As I joke, I tried to go in with the media through the media entrance.”

He continued, “That was a tremendous night, one of the greatest nights of my life. But that was probably the highlight, was getting denied by that old man and it making news everywhere. ..That’s a classic moment. I’m allowed to go in the Heat locker room for the most part, but I just tried to do it in a comical way. It didn’t work out for me, I’ll never do it again.”

The easygoing artist then threw in a little jab at the security guard who refused him. “It’s good to know that that [security] man is doing his job,” Drake continued. “Some things are sacred, for example, like the Heat locker room on the night of the NBA Finals. Not anybody should be able to walk in there, and he clearly knows zero Drake songs. I don’t blame him, he was like 89 years old. I understand, hats off to that gentleman who was doing due diligence as security.”

This is a rare, private appearance for Drake. He recently shut down his hometown of Toronto for the fourth annual OVO Fest. Drake brought out Kanye, J. Cole, Diddy and Ma$ e among a slew of guests for the sold out concert. He spoke to MTV News about possibly signing Ma$ e one day to his new OVO Sounds label. “Funny enough, me and Ma$ e have just been talking about what the future holds, about what he wants to do,” Drake revealed. “And anything is possible man. I told Ma$ e, ‘You’re Ma$ e, at the end of the day so I don’t think you should end up on anybody else’s label.”

Ma$ e or not, Drake also is working on making Toronto a music destination with OVO Sounds. Oliver El-Khatib, Co-founder of OVO had this to say: “We’re proud to assist the city we love foster music talent and to promote Toronto as a premier music destination. The OVO Fest grows every year, and shows the potential of what’s possible for Toronto. This is an thrilling development and we’re thrilled to assist in every way we can.”

Drake And The Weeknd Reunite On ‘Live For’

kissland

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

The Weeknd and Drake reunite for the singer’s new track “Live For” from his upcoming debut Kiss Land  due out on Sept 10. The song celebrates the swift life and swift women that the two men “live for.”

“This the sh–  that I live for/This the sh– that I live for/This the sh– that I live for/It could be what I die for,” The Weeknd sings.

The Weeknd and Drake were thought by many, to be feuding as of late. The OVOXO duo put those rumors to rest with photos of them in the studio and a joint appearance at Drake’s OVO Fest in Toronto earlier this month where they performed “Crew Love.”

The Weeknd spoke to Complex about his relationship with his hometown friend and how not signing with Drake’s OVO Sounds was not a personal diss. “But it makes sense. The thing about Drake is I told him what my decisions were going to be and he was down with it from the beginning,” he explained.

Kiss Land’s official tracklist was released today. Vibe shares that the 10-track offering features songs like “Professional” and “Tears In The Rain.”

Promise – Drake Started From The Bottom

As a long time friend of one Aubrey Graham, the Canadian Duck Down representative takes some time out to share some thoughts.

I had the craziest dream last night which is what warranted this. I’ve been wanting to say stuff before but held back for various reasons and as I’m not causing any harm I felt staying silent was unjust. My music is meant to be heard. So instead of doing anything official I decided to go this route to get my thoughts out and keep it moving.

I made the actual title “Drake Started From The Bottom” because people always interview me asking my take on that whole thing that he never was at the “bottom” so to speak. But he was musically, not that all the other things in his life didn’t work well for him but there were people who wouldn’t work with him or donate him an ear simply because of all the things we all believe to have boosted him to the position he is in. I was fortunate enough to be a friend in his early stages and truly witness his struggles and growth and can speak on some of them. #realtalk
