Jeff Chery – The Music

In the 1970s, Bob Marley summed up music by saying, “One good thing about music, when it hits, you feel no pain.” In 2000, dead prez said it again. Now, Jeff Chery revitalizes the concept with his latest release, simply titled “The Music”. The rapper verbalizes how he feels about music and the natural high it gives him. He also takes a moment to pay homage to the greats who have paved the way for him in the rap game, including Notorious B.I.G, 2Pac, Big L and more.

Shawn Chrystopher – lovestory. (Artwork)

july 26th.

i’m always reluctant to use a picture of myself as the artwork to my projects/albums. just because i grew up in an era when all rappers would just use a picture of themselves and some text saying their name and call it “art”work.

when i titled this mixtape lovestory. everyone immediately thought it was going to be a bunch of songs about me talking about women. theyre not totally wrong. but not just women ive been in relationships with, but women like my mom, my sister, my female friends, teachers/professors…

but i also love my crew. my niggas thats been down for me since day one. that’s why “one of my homies” fits so well.

i tried drawing different pieces for this artwork. had my friend curtis draw some stuff too. nothing really worked.

then christian came to my crib one day. i told him how this is the year my life will alter forever. and how all i want to do is alter the lives of those around me. i just want to grab everyone’s hand and lead them…from one side of the street to the next. because thats where “it”s at.

so in this picture. this artwork. thats where im going.

to the other side of the street. – Shawn

J-Zone & Chief Chinchilla’s Gators-N-Furs Mix Show: Safe Sex

July 11, 2012 is a good day as J-Zone has decided to randomly bring back his themed mix show with Chief Chinchilla.

This show’s theme: Safe sex. Or unsafe sex. Take your pick. After all, why spend hours at the gym preparing for summer and spend all that money getting fresh gear at Marshall’s when you’re exposing yourself to a sexually-transmitted gamma ray? Just a thought. From STDs to unwanted pregnancies, this show is the soundtrack to the irresponsible, painful, and scary (albeit hilarious at times) adventures of glove-less love. Yes, I found 25+ tremendous songs about this stuff. Ignorant and crude at times, but oh so informative.

Lord Finesse Sues Mac Miller, Mac Responds

For those of you that have been following Mac Miller for longer than his debut album, will probably remember Kool-Aid and Frozen Pizza. A track off his K.I.D.S. mixtape that sampled Lord Finesse’s Hip 2 Da Game. Well.. it looks like the unauthorized sample might cost the Pittsburgh kid $10 Million as Finesse has filed a lawsuit. After hearing of the actions taken against him, Mac took to Twitter to express his thoughts.

I’m supposed to be on hush but lemme speak on this real quick. 1. I made that record and video as nothing more than an 18 year old kid who wanted to rhyme and pay homage, no other intentions. 2. Finesse and I spoke on the phone for an hour after he heard the record and cleared the air. We even planned to work on music together. 3. All I wanted to do is shed light on a generation that inspired me. 4. When I heard there was a problem, I reached out to him to try and solve it. No response. 5. Finesse never cleared the Oscar Peterson sample on the original record. I did nothing wrong. We spoke on the phone had a good conversation, he was rad with the record. It’s all love tho. I ain’t even mad at dude. He still a legend. Lord Finesse, thank you for what u did for hip hop. Thank you for bringing my favorite rapper into the game. I should just drop some new music.

This morning Finesse jumped on his Twitter and gave his response as well.

1. I appreciate Mac’s kind words but his people did not handle his business correctly. 2. Basics – Mixtapes are one thing, but you can’t take someone’s else’s entire song, shoot a music video and call it your own. 3. Mac’s on the top of his game right now. I wish him the best in Europe and I hope to hear from him besides on Twitter.

The last mention leaves light that things could possibly be worked out IMO but we’ll just have to wait and see.
